The people who run the STEM club are the key to its success
STEM club leaders
These are the people who make sure the STEM club programme actually happens. They are likely to be:
- STEM subject teachers
- STEM technicians
Example responsibilities:
- Making sure an approriate programme is planned
- Ensuring kit / space is available
- Risk assessments and child protection
- Providing new ideas for the club
- Budgeting and other financial considerations
- Attending relevant CPD
- Reporting to and liasing with key partners
Mentors
These are trusted people to whom the STEM club leaders can allocate tasks related to running the club. They could be:
- Reliable sixth formers or other older students
- Other volunteers
Example responsibilities:
- Giving expert advice to students
- Organising specialist activities
- Updating the website
- Keeping a log of activities
- Club promotion and advertising
- Maintining membership records
Supporters
These are people who aren't directly involved with the club but who are necessary for the clubs continuing success. They could include:
- A member of the school's senior leadership team
- A school governor
- Local industry / business contacts
- Parents
- Members of staff not directly connected to STEM
- STEM Clubs Advisor
Why they are necessary:
- Source of potential volunteers
- Provide ideas / resources for activities
- Funding opportunities
- External recognition for the work the club does.
