This is a fantastic after school event that our students love coming to!
We make full use of our STEM ambassadors and invite one in each term ( though we are moving to half-termly next year due to the success of this event!)
We choose a theme for the event and the STEM ambassador gives a short presentation and then opens up a debate.
Students from all years come along and we make the event "by invitation only" and limit the numbers to 30.
The events are always advertised on our plasma screens and intranet as well as using posters around the school.
The inviites really get the students buzzing and they go out of their way to impress us at STEM club to ensure they are invited to the event.
The debates can get very lively but the STEM ambassadors are brilliant at keeping everyone focussed!
We ensure that refreshments are provided in the form of tea/coffee/water and fruity flapjacks.
All our students tell us how much they enjoying talking to and debating with "real" scientisits and engineers.
The college students really get involved and we are planning an event just for our college students - this will enable them to prepare university, apprenticeships or employment.
Using the STEM ambassadors also ensures that we continue to create new and exciting links with the local businesses in the STEM sector.
