We started by looking at onion cells and cheek cells using a light microscope. We moved onto looking at electron micrographs of cells and followed it up by a visit to LJMU where the members were able to 'play' with an electron microscope. Back at school we looked at the structure of DNA and using orbital models we made our own DNA model. We then moved onto extracting DNA from onion cells and cheek cells. We bought in some small sealable vials that are meant to be used to make items of jewellery. Pupils put their own DNA into the vials and took them home.
