SMART Materials

Club members got to play with some very cool and unusual SMART materials. There were seven different materials with VERY interesting properties! Favourites included...

Memory Wire – Club members bent and crumpled it, then watched in amazement as it straightened itself out in hot water.

Hydrogel – Hydrogel starts off small but absorbs a MASSIVE amount of water. Club members had fun testing it to the limits (and covering the desks!).

Polymorph – This material goes putty-like in hot water but sets rock solid when cooled. Members moulded pencil grips, bracelets and even a miniature guitar!

Smart Putty – Moldable and bouncy! Club members had fun chasing it down the science corridor and then watching how it goes brittle when pulled.
