The whole of Year 8 undertook a 6 week project (12 hours in total) as part of their Design and Technology lessons / scheme of work. The design brief was to investigate a range of materials / products and to reuse / recycle them in creative ways.
Students researched the 6Rs and applied them to a variety of situations. In Resistant Materials students designed and made clocks either by recycling other materials / products or reducing the amount of material used. In textiles students used crisp packets sewn together to make bags, newspapers to make dresses and recycled other materials to make waist coats and skirts. They also undertook several investigations into how natural sources are turned into various materials. Within the Food option students researched and experimented with local / seasonal produce and created a variety of meals for different occasions.
The students worked in groups and part of the challenge was to present thier results in a visual way. The end result was an impressive array of posters, prototypes, final products and reports. A group of students then arranged the best pieces into a final display and exhibited the work at the Lincolnshire Show. The display came first in the educational competition at the show.
