On Saturday 3rd May the Science Club visited Greenwich Observatory and the Natural History Museum. We took a river boat from Waterloo to Greenwich and back again for the girls to get a different perspective of the city, its architecture, culture and history. This was a wonderful trip and the girls really enjoy, some had never even been on a boat before.
The information about our trip to Greenwich Observatory can be found in our Space Project.
At the Natural History Museum we scheduled a slot in the Invetigate centre, where the girls could have hands on experience at handling and analysing different artifacts, from animal skins, to skulls, invertebrates to vertebrate specimens. This was highly rewarding and the Museum staff were excellent. This room was full of specimens, computers and microscopes and we could have spent hours in here. We would really recommend it.
We also visited the Earth section and learnt how volcanoes and earthquakes happen, and experienced an earthquake in the simulation section. The girls marvelled at the size of the blue whale in the mammals section and really enjoyed comparing the live animals we saw at the zoo to some of the more exotic specimens in this exhibit that have come from all over the world.
A thoroughly enjoyable and interesting day that the girls will hopefully remember for years to come.
